hi, i have already painted my keyboard and mouse red to match my x-super alien tower.

I also wanted to paint my monitor red but i have heard a lot of bad stories related to the extremely powerful discharge capacitors inside.

Is it safe to paint your monitor if u do it right?
do you guys have any tips for me from your experiences?

Of course its safe... If you do it right. Even unplugged the monitor can hold a charge so simply, dont touch the capacitators.... Remove everything you want to paint, dont touch anything else.

its harder than it sounds, I tried to take my monitor apart for painting and I finally gave up and the front half doesn't properly mount to the back half. Its a tricky thing, there is a guy on overclockers.com that uses plastic dyes that can be applied while the monitor is all together, go check it out.

that is the key...you want to use a vinyl/plastic dye instead of paint....it will only dye the plastic parts and not the metal or glass components...but you still have to be very carefull not to get it on the circiut boards inside either

you will want to use some disposable rubber or nitrile gloves when you use the dye though...if you get it on your skin it will take forever to come off in most cases

Taking the monitor apart is not the best idea either, theres a REAL danger inside it, and its much more dangerous than a Power Supply

that is very true...the tube..capacitors and flyback hold a charge of up to 60kV for a long time (thats 60,000 Volts) you sure as hell dont want to get tagged by that.....it is enough to knock you across the room(I learned the hard way when I was a kid)

I have had to do some monitor repairs before and learned to discharged the tube/flyback first by using a screwdriver with a wire to a grounding source and then just kinda jabbing it under that rubber suction cup looking thing at the top of the tube...you will hear a load crack/snap when the static charge jumps to the screwdriver(note: you may not always hear it) once that is done..the system should be discharged of the dangerous high voltage but there can still be enough in the big caps to make your arm numb for a little while so be very carefull......you would be better off taking it to a repair shop and just have them dismantle it for you so you can paint it then have them put it back together for you(or have a friend that does monitor repairs do it for you)

that is the best advice I can give if you are set on taking it apart to paint it so you dont meet Mr. Voltage

thx for the advice guys, but the monitor has already been painted and put back together thanks to my expertise. lol

this is by farone of the most frustrating computer mods that i have ever done but i think it was worth it becuase now my monitor, keyboard, mouse and speakers are all painted red to match my red computer case.

Not any worse then a car's ignition wires. I've been zapped by them. The whole TVs can kill thingy is SO blown out of proprtion. Yep. they certainly can. But namely if you have a heart condition. Pop the cover(s) off, watch the flyback xfomer and Your fine. If your still scared, take the back cover off and ground it out. There should be a sticker tell you how inside.
