Im thinking of getting a new computer soon since I think i might be making more money soon. I was looking at a nice notbook since a lot of kids onc ampus have them and they have a full WiFi Network there which is sweet. So i compared the notbook to what I could built.
Heres the Excel doc. Hope you all have M$ Office

or you can get both. A nice notebook and a very nice gaming desktop. For $1000, you can get a pretty good desktop. For about $1400 you can get a very good gaming notebook with an amd 64, 512 mb ram, mobility 9700.
edit: thats what I did. I got a desktop for around $800 (had case, hdd and optical drives) and bought a nice notebook with a dvd burner for less than $1300 after tax and shipping. It has a 1.5 ghz p-m, 512 mb ram and a 9700 which allows me to even play hl2.

For those that lean towards a power notebook, check this link first.

If the parts are available, I go along with nark.
BTW how did everything go with all the flooding and crap?

wow computers are cheap in the US, in the uk a decent desktop costs around £1200 and decent laptop about £1800+, then monitors cost a load as well...

Isn't that because of the tariffs (VAT? ) you all pay on imported items especially technology? :(

Sorry, but I'm a sucker for perfromance. I think what I may be able to settle on is a cheap ass notebook, and then a nice Desktop.

Well I just took a look at the m50 notebook at voodoo computers. 3ibs, with battery. I'd probalby buy the cehap[est ass version they had, and then jumble it up to 512mb of ram. Hell, that thing was nice. I got to say, I could see myslef droping some coin for that. Anyone one know of any other manufactures that make really "cool" Laptops?

add $50 for the 512 mb ram, and you got yourself a top of the line notebook.

heres what Im looking for,
a 1.6ghz Centrino,
512mb but i can easily add that later.
Integrated Intel or ATI something
Windows Xp Pro
Sweet ass case
The problem i am having is voodoo wants a hell of a lot for there m50 (which I have simlply fallen inlove with
I've checked out Dell, Sony, IBM, Compaq, HP, Acer, Gateway, ABS, And all the companies linked to that article posted early. But nothing compares, the m50 is simply awsome. I could easily justify buying one. I just don't know that I will have the cash to do so. So at that, Im kind of stuck. I'm just not sure. The only fault I've found in my little m50 is that it doesn't have a decent vid card.
yeah, i am not sure that $500 for a paintjob is worth it. Personally, I would never get an alienware, falcon northwest, or voodo because they are ridiculously overpriced. Just so u know, u can get this notebook with a 2.0 ghz p-m. Also, the memory is pc2100 instead of pc2700, so you might want to get it with 128 mb of ram and upgrade it by yourself. This is a very good deal btw, and it is a compal cl56 chassis.

You are a wounderful. Thats awsome. I'd get the CX5. It looks great. I want a computer that I will get a lot of compliments on cause no one has ever seen anything like it anymore. Around here people have either a 4inch thick compaq or a tiny plastic IBM. But this is difrent. I really like it, the color is close to perfect as well. Im still shoping but I think that might be the one. Voodoo is a great company from what i can tell, but they are simply charging to much. thats better anyways, and its the same computer as a lot of other companeis are charging mroe for cuase its ODM right?
Anyways, thanks a lot. If any one else comes across anything let me know! I'm real excited, that could suit me very very well indeed.

yeah I priced it with dell too, the only diffrence is the $258 for the paint job, which buy the way is totally worth it.
I did a little CS just cause im so excited, I still can't decide between red and blue though.

Cool, but you should have deselctd the keyboard and the sign,
Anyways, yeah its a poular chasis, they are priced esactly with dell, and then $250 for paint. I can justify that.

I found a new place thats even cheaper
www.cyberpowerinc.com
they offer auto paint for onoy $100 extra, but they don't offer it on any centrio models which means crap battery life, but on the other hand I will get a 64bit chip which will take me into the 64bit world. So I'll have to get a secound battery and just swap it out every once and a while.

not bad...I would charge about $200 more for those system specs
