Sshhh... One-chip, real-time smartphones are here

By this time next year the bar for mobile technology will have been raised rather higher than it is today, in what promises to be the most significant hardware advance for several years. But in a surprising contrast to most technology introductions, which either trumpet arcane features (eg, "32 bitiness"), or are noisily hype features before they're ready for use, this is a move the manufacturers don't even want to talk about.

Silly Politicians, Games Are For Kids

Sebastian Mallaby over at the Washington Post has an editorial about the potential value of gaming for children. He points out that tests conducted in actual real-world settings do not indicate that video games have harmful effects on gamers, and goes on to suggest that many games surely impart positive knowledge such as problem solving, history, management skills, understanding of economics, and more.

Yet Another Indiana Politician Readying Video Game Legislation

Video game content has suddenly become a hot button issue in the Hoosier State. Yesterday GamePolitics reported on Republican State Senator Dennis Kruse' plan to introduce age-based game legislation in the 2006 session. Earlier this month U.S. Senator Evan Bayh (D-IN) joined with Senate colleagues Hillary Clinton and Joseph Lieberman in their proposal for federal video game legislation, the Family Entertainment Protection Act (FEPA).

Need $$$ to Set Up Your New MMO in China?

Despite official government misgivings about online game addiction and violent content, China looks to be a lucrative potential market for video game publishers. Start-up operations, course, require funding - lots of funding. Along those lines, GamePolitics received an interesting e-mail this morning hyping something called the China Venture Capital Yearbook 2005."]Despite official government misgivings about online game addiction and violent content, China looks to be a lucrative potential market for video game publishers. Phantom materializes... in lapboard form only

Remember that goofy keyboard/mouspad wireless combo that despite how ridiculous it looks, still seemed like a not altogether terrible idea? Well, somebody at Infinium saw an avenue for raising some much needed loot so they said, "Phantom: you wait here. Lapboard: come with me."

ATI calls PS3 GPU "unrefined"

ATI and Nvidia, quite understandably, have a pretty bitter rivalry, stemming from the competitive graphics card market in the realm of PCs. While IBM can laugh all the way to the bank, having a hand or two in the creation of all 3 next-gen console's CPUs, ATI and Nvidia are having to share the console market.

Geometry Wars: 4.191 million score by xTHeDoGgx

Geometry Wars is still one of our favorite Xbox 360 games. For good reason, too - the game is highly addictive, old-school fun. xTHeDoGgx has just posted his video for the number 2 worldwide score of 4.191 million. The 20-minute video, a gigantic 167 MB avi file, is impressive to watch (even if it does get a bit tedious after awhile) and certainly can help those looking to improve their game.

Alienware's m3400 ultraportable

(yes, thats right, Alienware and ultraportable in the same sentence)

Looks like Alienware couldn't be bothered to launch at CES and announced their latest Sentia today, the m3400 14-inch widescreen laptop. This is one of those straddles-the-ultraportable-line laptops that's a solid 4.5 pounds, a number still more than portable enough than to get you by on naught but the most greuling business trips.

Nintendo confirms Revolution will debut for less than $300

In the shocker of the year, Nintendo President Satoru Iwata decided to let us all know that they are indeed planning on dropping the Revolution for less than the Xbox Core system, no word yet on the rumors of Mario being a plumber.

I think Nintendo is on to something... I hope the Revolution goes over well... I still play my Gamecube quite a bit...
